Overall speed lower than letter speed adds extra space between letters and words (Farnsworth spacing). It is the easiest way to learn: letters sound right, and you get time to think.

How the timing works

The generator follows the standard Morse timing used in radio:

PartLengthAt 20 WPM
Dot1 unit60 ms
Dash3 units180 ms
Gap inside a letter1 unit60 ms
Gap between letters3 units180 ms
Gap between words7 units420 ms

One unit in milliseconds is 1200 divided by the WPM. With Farnsworth spacing on, the dots and dashes stay at full speed and only the gaps between letters and words get longer.

Questions people ask

How do I make a Morse code audio file?
Type your text, choose the speed and tone under Sound settings, then press Download and pick MP3 or WAV. The file plays on phones, computers and in video editors.
What speed should I use?
Around 15 to 20 words per minute (WPM) sounds natural. Beginners often like 18 to 20 WPM letters with Farnsworth spacing set to 5 to 10 WPM, so each letter sounds right but there is time to think between letters.
What tone is normal for Morse code?
Most people use a tone between 500 and 800 Hz. 600 Hz is a common, easy-to-hear choice. Pick whatever is comfortable for your ears.
What does WPM mean in Morse code?
Words per minute. It is measured with the word "PARIS", which is exactly 50 dot-lengths long including the space after it. At 20 WPM one dot lasts 60 milliseconds.
