Morse code tree
To decode a letter, start at the top. Go left for a dot and right for a dash, one step per symbol. Where you stop is the letter. For example, −·− goes right, left, right and lands on K.
How to use the chart
- To write Morse code: find each letter and copy its dots and dashes. Leave a space between letters and a / between words.
- To read Morse code: find the pattern in the chart, or follow it down the tree. Shorter patterns are more common letters, so check those first.
- To learn it: charts are great for looking things up, but learn by sound if you want to hear Morse code. Try the free trainer.
Questions people ask
How do I get the Morse code chart as a PDF?
Press Print or save as PDF. In the print window, choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. The chart fits on one A4 or US Letter page and the tree prints on a second page.
Is this chart good for kids?
Yes. It uses large letters and clear dots and dashes. For a fun activity, ask children to write their name in Morse code using the chart, then check it with the translator.
What is a Morse code tree?
A Morse code tree shows the alphabet as a branching diagram. Start at the top, go left for each dot and right for each dash, and stop where the code ends. It is handy for decoding, while the chart is faster for writing Morse code.
